Mashallah

Mashallah was one of the words I remember hearing as a child when we lived in Izmir, Turkey.  Mashallah literally means "in God's will".  It is also used to praise, express joy and gratefulness towards a person or happening.  The word is also used to offer respect and some say it as a protection against "the evil eye".  Say it out loud MASHALLAH - isn't amazing to say?

My mother spent a lot of time shopping in the markets in and around Izmir, Turkey when we lived there for several years when I was a child.  Many of the things I am attracted to have a middle eastern feel to them and most of my accessories in my own home are from our time in Izmir.

Here are a few of my favorites…...

Brass canisters that Turks used as lunch boxes

White Porcelain Figurines that I could stare at for hours…..
I can almost hear the swoosh of the dancing Dervish's skirt.

Worry beads look great on top of stacked books....

Gordon Gregory Photography

I get to spend the next couple of days being in awe of  Gordon Gregory's amazing talent.  Gordon is photographing a recent out of town project for us and I can't wait to see how it comes to life through his lens.

Gordon has changed the way our website looks and feels because of his expert shots.  He travels all over the world capturing breathtaking images.  I find myself mesmerized by his pictures.

Here is just a sampling of his work….

Inspiration of the Week

Here it is…..

A view of Eric Cohler's living room.
The geometric window grill application is a modern twist on the
De Stijl movement that started in 1917.

Eric says in a recent interview
"We all mine our past to find our future.  Without past references I personally can't move forward".

Here are a few examples of the De Stijl movement past and present.

The Beauty of Art

A piece of art will either complete a space or make it not work at all.  I will actually encourage clients to keep their walls blank until we find that perfect piece.  Sometimes we already have it, sometimes it is right around the corner and there have been times it has taken a couple of years to find "THE" piece.  In the end they are all worth the wait….

Here are a few of our favorite client art installations
